Funding Overview
Charitable Giving Tools
The Foundation offers donors the chance to utilize the full spectrum of charitable giving tools from outright gifts of cash and appreciated securities to bequests and charitable remainder trusts that can provide life-income and estate planning advantages. Staff work with donors and their professional advisors to create a charitable giving strategy that maximizes the resources available for charity as it also seeks to reduce both current and future taxes.
What is an Endowment?
Endowment funds are the roots of a community foundation, the anchor of support for the long-term needs of the community. But what exactly is an endowment?
Endowment funds are permanent funds invested in order to provide annual income to benefit specific non-profit organizations or charitable purposes. They are not reserve funds or savings accounts, but instead are a resource to provide revenue for current needs and future operations. Because
only earnings are spent, endowments provide stability and support to ensure that important community programs will continue. Endowment funds exist as a result of donors who want to provide long-term support for specific organizations and programs in the community.
Thoughtful community members created the La Crosse Community Foundation more than 75 years ago and we invite you to continue that tradition. The following information describes how donors may meet their charitable interests and support our community’s needs.
When people are asked why they support causes or organizations, many reply that they want to “give back” to the community. They have been blessed by good fortune, care to memorialize a family member or loved one, express gratitude to an organization that has touched their lives, or develop a family philanthropic legacy.
When a person is motivated to “give back,” the next step is to identify the most effective way to contribute. The La Crosse Community Foundation assists donors with services and vehicles to implement their charitable objectives for lasting impact.
