Funds
For over 75 years, hundreds of individuals, families, organizations and businesses have used the La Crosse Community Foundation to manage their charitable giving through the establishment of individual funds. Named by the donor, these funds produce income used to make grants to a variety of not-for-profit organizations. A specific fund’s type and purpose is defined by the donor in consultation with the Foundation.
Fund types include discretionary funds, such as unrestricted, field of interest and restricted funds; designated funds that
support particular organizations; donor advised funds where donors make grant recommendations; and consultative funds, where donors have an ongoing consulting relationship with the Foundation as to the distribution of funds.
The La Crosse Community Foundation and those served in grant making owe a debt of gratitude to all of the donors whose thoughtful philanthropic planning has resulted in the establishment of the following funds:
Unrestricted Funds
General Fund
The General Fund is designed to serve community needs through a perpetual fund. The most flexible of La Crosse Community Foundation funds, it can respond quickly to changing community needs.
Jean and Rudy Schnurrer Fund
The Jean and Rudy Schnurrer Fund provides support for the changing needs of the community. In 1999 Mr. Schnurrer established this fund to assist families in need.

Donor-Advised Funds
The donors who create these funds suggest how the interest earnings are used. The Foundation also may make recommendations for the use of earnings.
Lyle and Norma Anderson Family Fund
The Anderson Family Fund, established in 1997, was created by a gift from Lyle and Norma Anderson. Mr. Anderson was president of First Bank, La Crosse. Mrs. Anderson raised their two children and volunteered in the community.
James and Ellyn Ash Family Fund
James and Ellyn Ash Family Fund is a donor advised fund established by Mrs. Ash in 2003. The Ash Family Fund assists in supporting programs and services for people who are living in poverty. The fund will be advised by Ellyn and the children Jay, William and Elizabeth.
Walter F. Baltz Family Fund
The Baltz Fund, established in 1987 with a gift of G. Heileman Brewing Co. stock from Mr. and Mrs. Walter Baltz, Jr., is used to support a variety of community projects.
Jean Gitz Bassett Fund
Jean established this donor advised fund in 2006 to support activities which contribute to an improved quality of life for either children or adults in our community. Jean was co-owner of WLCX-AM and WLXR-FM radio in La Crosse and inducted into the Wisconsin Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1998. She is an active leader in education, the arts, and family and children services.
Blahnik-Naugler Help Fund of the Women’s Fund
The Blahnik-Naugler Help Fund within the Women’s Fund was established by Rebecca and James Naugler in 2003.
Rebecca Naugler is an owner of Carlson Wagonlit Travel and Jim Naugler is a La Crosse attorney. Grants from the Blahnik-Naugler Help Fund will be advised by the Women’s Fund Board of which Mrs. Naugler serves as president.
Mike and Mary Bottcher Fund
The Mike and Mary Bottcher Fund is a donor advised fund established to benefit La Crosse and Onalaska organizations.
CMG Women’s Fund
This fund established to honor Carroll McCarty Gundersen, provides support for women for supplemental studies of issues beyond standard academic programs with an emphasis on community leadership programs.
Russell G. and Gail K. Cleary Fund
Established in 1986 by Russell and Gail Cleary, the Cleary Fund supports various community projects. Mr. Cleary served as President and CEO of the G. Heileman Brewing Company. Mrs. Cleary directs Cleary Management Corporation and their other businesses.
Joseph J. Connell Fund
The Joseph J. Connell Fund is a donor advised fund that will support various community projects that improve the quality of life for area residents. Joe Connell serves on the Foundation Board of Directors.
Davy Family Fund
Initiated in 1993 with a bequest from Philip S. Davy, this fund receives additional support from the Davy family and Davy Engineering Company. Annual distributions are advised by the family.
Durtsche Family Fund
The Durtsche Family Fund was established by foundation board member Sue Durtsche and her husband Tim to support causes, primarily in the La Crosse area, that better the world we live in.
Barbara and Dave Erickson Fund
The Barbara and Dave Erickson Fund is a donor advised fund that has assisted groups in their work with young people.
Chad Erickson Memorial Fund
The Chad Erickson Memorial Fund was established in memory of Chad who died at age 15 in 1995. Chad’s parents, Barb and Dave, and sisters Shannon and Kristin contributed to this fund to assist with things in life that Chad loved including skateboarding and causes that support young people.
The Erickson Sisters' Fund
The Kristin Erickson and Shannon Osley Fund is a donor advised fund that makes grant recommendations by these two sisters who are interested in helping people achieve great things with their lives.
Fowler and Hammer Fund
The Fowler and Hammer Fund was established in
2005 by family members of a local construction
company that has been building in the La Crosse
area since 1963. The Fowler and Hammer Fund is an
advised fund from which the annual earnings support
programs and services that enhance the quality of life
in the greater La Crosse area.
Barbara and Donald Frank Family Fund
The Barbara and Donald Frank Family Fund, established in 1995, supports some of the Frank family’s many philanthropic interests – varying from environmental organizations to health care to family serving organizations.
The Froegel Family Fund
The Froegel Family Fund supports various charities at the recommendation of Anita Froegel. Mrs. Froegel plans to develop the endowment and to provide consistent annual support for several charities.
Ellen and Henry Funk Family Fund
Mr. and Mrs. Funk established this family donor advised fund in 2006 in appreciation of the blessings of their lives, including their marriage that produced seven children who are equally involved in building community through various charitable organizations. The Funk family will advise grants annually to support community programs and projects.
Fred and Mary Ann Funk Family Fund
The Fred and Mary Ann Funk Family Fund was establised in 2006 to improve the quality of life in the area by supporting programs such as health, the arts, youth programs, education and the environment, which were lifetime interests of the Funks. The Fund is advised by the family.
Dr. Frank Furlano Family Fund
The Dr. Frank Furlano Fund was established to recognize the many accomplishments of this physician who died in 1991, at age 36, of a brain aneurysm. The Furlano Fund supports community education and increased understanding of alcohol and chemical dependency issues and mental health issues.
Norman L. Gillette, Sr., Family Fund
This fund was established to serve a wide spectrum of community needs. Norman L. Gillette, Sr., began the Pepsi-Cola distributorship in La Crosse in 1937. He established this fund as a way to “give back to the community.”
Jack and Rosie Glendenning Family Fund
The Glendenning Family Fund was established by Jack and Rosanne Glendenning in 1995 to celebrate the success of Inland Printing and to share with the community that has blessed them and their family.
Reverend Ronald and Merle Gustafson Fund
The Reverend Ronald and Merle Gustafson Fund was established in 2003 as a fund that supports many interests including violence prevention efforts. Rev. Gustafson was the pastor of First Presbyterian Church for many years while Merle worked at New Horizons Women’s Shelter.
Harrington Fund
A family established this fund in 1998 in order to give back to the community and to help young people and families. Its grants have supported the Skate Park, Coulee Council on Alcoholism, the Family and Children’s Center, and WAFER.
James and Ellen Heinecke Fund
The James and Ellen Heinecke Fund is a donor advised fund established with an initial gift from Mr. and Mrs. Heinecke in 2003. Both James and Ellen have been active community members involved in the leadership and administration of several non-profit organizations and peace and justice initiatives. Jim Heinecke is the former president of Home Savings, now Associated Bank.
Hutson Family Fund
Mike Hutson established the Hutson Family Fund in 2002. Mr. Hutson served as a board member for 10 years. The Hutson Family has lived and worked in the La Crosse area for several generations. The Hutson Family Fund extends grants for projects that help address food and housing needs for families in the La Crosse area.
JARD Fund
The Jard Fund is an advised fund focused on
assisting charitable organizations primarily in the
La Crosse area.
Joseph W. Kotnour, Sr. Family Fund
Established in 2001 by the wife and children of Joseph W. Kotnour, Sr., this fund provides basic necessities for children whose families cannot afford them.
Roy E. and L. Hope Kumm Fund
This fund was established in 1986 with a gift from L. Hope Kumm. The late Roy E. Kumm was president of G. Heileman Brewing Company. Mr. and Mrs. Kumm were active philanthropists.
The Magerus McKinney Fund
The Magerus McKinney Fund was established by John Magerus and Everett McKinney in 2002. This donor advised fund supports educational events and activities that encourage and promote diversity and multi-culturalism projects in La Crosse and Racine, Wisconsin.
Todd and Deb Mahr Family Fund
The Todd and Deb Mahr Family Fund is a donor advised fund established by the Mahr family to improve the quality of life for La Crosse and Onalaska residents. As a medical student, Todd Mahr received a La Crosse Community Foundation scholarship.
Bob and Jean Marck Family Fund
The Bob and Jean Marck Family Fund was
established to express their appreciation to the
La Crosse community and share their resources to
continue to make La Crosse a great place to work
and raise families.
Amie L. Mathy Fund
Established in 1987 by a gift from the Mathy Construction Company, the Amie L. Mathy Fund honors the founder and former chairman of the board of that firm.
Charles F. Mathy Fund
Established in 2006 with hundreds of memorials honoring Mr. Mathy, this advised fund honors the second generation leadership of Mathy Construction Company. Mr. Mathy provided counsel and leadership for innumerable La Crosse area organizations. The Charles F. Mathy Fund will assist many of those organizations as well as other nonprofits that improve the quality of life in the region.
Donald and Audrey Medinger Family Fund
To mark his 50th birthday, former La Crosse Mayer John Medinger and his seven siblings established an endowment fund to honor their parents. Established in 1998, the fund provides charitable funding to organizations that help needy individuals and families.
Tom and Ann Monson Family Fund
The Tom and Ann Monson Family Fund was
established in 2005 to support and encourage
nonprofits that improve the quality of life in the
La Crosse area.
Phoenix Fund
The Phoenix Fund was established by Denis Tucker
as a donor advised fund that focuses on assisting
nonprofit organizations that help people over life’s
challenges as they pursue careers.
PMJ Fund
The PMJ Fund is a donor advised fund established by a longtime board member. The fund issues grants for various charitable projects recommended by the donor and approved the Board. The PMJ Fund awards grants consistent with the Foundation guidelines and based on community needs.
Brian and Karen Rude Family Fund
When Brian Rude retired from the Wisconsin State Senate in 2000, he and his wife, Karen, decided to use the balance of his political campaign fund to establish this donor-advised fund. The Rude Fund supports various projects in La Crosse and Vernon Counties.
George and Virginia Schneider Family Fund
The George and Virginia Schneider Fund was established by the 11 Schneider children in honor of their parents to support needy families in the La Crosse area. Each year the family advises grants to important projects that help others.
Jack and Marti Schwem Fund
Jack and Marti Schwem established this fund in 1999 because they wanted to invest in the community where they raised their family, spent most of their careers, and plan to spend the rest of their lives. The fund supports philanthropic interests and encourages collaborative initiatives.
Sullivan Fund
The Sullivan Fund is a donor advised fund established by a La Crosse family to honor their parents, Maurice and Delia, and support various charitable interests in the community. The family advises grants to agencies that address identified needs in the community.
Betty Sundet Fund
This fund was established in 2006 by Barb Sundet Davis to honor her mother Betty Sundet. Mrs. Sundet raised three children and was active in a number of community organizations.
Carol and Duane Taebel Family Fund
Carol established this fund in 2006 to honor her husband Duane's memory and his many contributions to the medical community, their church and involvement in other activities like Oktoberfest. She and Duane shared a great fondness for La Crosse and appreciate that this is the community where their family grew up. Through the Carol and Duane Taebel Family Fund, their philanthropic leadership will carry on for generations.
Wishland Pony Express Fund
Established by a transfer of assets from another foundation, the Wishland Pony Express grants wishes to critically ill children enabling them to purchase equipment or other items to make their lives less difficult.
Roberta Zurn Fund
The Roberta Zurn Fund was established in 2005 at
the request of the Women’s Fund Board to honor
Roberta Zurn for her generosity to the Women’s
Fund. The Board chooses a woman who
has demonstrated leadership and dedication to
women’s and girls’ programs.

Grantee Endowment Funds
The Foundation manages endowment funds for non-profit agencies, providing freedom from day-to-day administration of the funds. Additional gifts are encouraged to enhance the endowments of these organizations.
Bethany Lutheran Homes, Inc., Fund
Earnings from the endowment of Bethany Lutheran Homes are earmarked for continuing education for employees.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse Fund
This fund of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse was established in 1985 to attract additional endowed gifts to the Club, which provides a variety of services for young people.
Children’s Museum of La Crosse Endowment Fund
Established in 1998, this endowment provides membership scholarships for families to enjoy the Children’s Museum.
Coulee Council on Addictions
Endowment Fund
The Coulee Council on Addictions Fund is an
agency endowment dedicated to assisting
people who are working with their own and their
loved ones’ addictions. Many outreach programs are
possible because of the endowment earnings.
Family and Children’s Center Endowment Fund
Earnings from this fund are used to support the agency’s programs and services for children and families of the La Crosse area.
Anita and Robert Funke Historical Society Fund
The Anita and Robert Funke Historical Society Fund was established by the La Crosse County Historical Society to recognize Bob Funke’s long time interest in the Historical Society and the marriage union and lifetime of work at Honigs Gift Shop shared by his wife Anita Funke.
Goodwill Industries of North Central Wisconsin Fund
The earnings of this endowment established in 1997 help create opportunities for people who have special needs to achieve full participation in the community.
La Crosse Chamber Chorale Fund
The La Crosse Chamber Chorale Endowment Fund was established as part of a challenge grant from the La Crosse Community Foundation in 2002. The Chamber Chorale Fund supports the group’s mission to provide chamber music for the enjoyment of La Crosse area residents.
La Crosse Concert Band Fund
The La Crosse Concert Band Fund supports this musical organization comprised of professional adult and student apprentice musicians. For 75 years La Crosse Concert Band has provided a free summer concert series in Riverside Park.
La Crosse County Historical Society Endowment Fund
This fund, established in 1990 by bequests from the Walter Sands, Clarence Smith and Margaret Bott estates, supports ongoing operations of the Historical Society.
La Crosse Public Education Foundation Endowment Fund
The La Crosse Public Education Foundation is dedicated to enhancing creative learning in public education. The Foundation awards venture grants in the La Crosse public schools.
Amie L. Mathy Center for Recreation
and Education Endowment Fund
This fund was established with
encouragement from a Community Foundation
challenge grant to support opportunities for young
people living in the Hamilton Elementary School-Viterbo University neighborhood who can benefit
from Boys and Girls Clubs activities at the Center.
Mental Health Coalition Endowment Fund
The Mental Health Coalition Fund supports programs and services that reduce stigma to
help people living with mental illness and to develop
a mentally healthy community by serving as a voice
for people and their loved ones whose concerns often
are not heard in the broader community. The MHC
Fund welcomes additional gifts and memorials to
affirm its work and mission.
Onalaska Foundation for Educational Excellence Endowment Fund
The Onalaska Foundation for Educational Excellence (OFFEE) was established in 1998 to strengthen community participation in Onalaska schools. The Fund invites additional contributions.
Pettibone Park Fund
The Pettibone Park Fund was established with a transfer of assets from a fund which operates for the benefit and improvement of Pettibone Park.
Salvation Army Endowment Fund
The Salvation Army Endowment Fund was established by an endowment resulting from the dissolution of the La Crosse Industrial Association.
Swantz Professional Development Fund
When Richard Swantz retired as superintendent of the School District of La Crosse in 1998, the La Crosse Public Education Foundation established this fund to honor his 21 years of service to the school district. The Swantz Fund is part of the La Crosse Public Education Endowment.
United Fund for the Arts and Humanities Endowment Fund
The United Fund for the Arts and Humanities Endowment Fund provides for the perpetual support for the arts and humanities in the region. Established in 1992, the endowment ensures the continuing high quality of cultural life in the community.
La Crosse Area Family YMCA Fund
This YMCA fund supports the agency’s programs and activities for children and families in the La Crosse area. The YMCA provides programs and services for more that 7,000 children and teens annually. Additional gifts are invited.

Scholarships
These funds, often named to recognize individuals, families, businesses and other organizations, provide scholarships to area students.
Ella F. Ambrosius Fund
This fund, which provides music awards and scholarships, was established in 1975 by Ella F. Ambrosius.
Mary Jane Bice Fund
This scholarship fund was established in memory of her parents, Mary Louisa and Frederick T. Whitbeck, and her first husband, Alfred W. Rice, a former La Crosse Tribune editor. Rice and Whitbeck Scholarships are given to La Crosse and Onalaska public high school graduates pursuing journalism or environmental studies.
William S. Case Scholarship
Nellie L. Case established this fund through her will in memory of her son, William, in 1969. William S. Case Scholarships are given to needy area students who desire to study chemistry.
Coulee Region Engineering Scholarship Fund
This fund is an outgrowth of an annual scholarship, awarded by the Western Chapter of the Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers. The scholarship provides support for graduating seniors who plan further study in one of the engineering fields.
Peter DeCicco Scholarship
This scholarship was established as a memorial to Dr. DeCicco by his wife, Sharon and their children. The scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Aquinas High School who shows promise in the further study of mathematics, physical science or a related field.
Family Playhouse Theater Scholarship
The Family Playhouse Theater Scholarship was established by the Family Playhouse Theater Board of Directors as it distributed its assets and dissolved in 2002. Each spring the Family Playhouse Scholarship is available to assist a deserving area high school graduate who has some interest in theater or performance. High school guidance staff, in conjunction with theater instructors, forward scholarship recommendations to the Foundation.
Ernest and Olive Gershon Fund
The Ernest and Olive Gershon Fund provide scholarships to non-traditional female students who have academic promise and face financial challenges.
Josephine Hintgen Fund
A bequest from Josephine Hintgen, a long-time administrator in the School District of La Crosse, provides scholarships for Logan and Central High School students.
Betty and Dale Kendrick Scholarship for Studio Art in Painting
The Betty and Dale Kendrick Scholarship for Studio Art in Painting is a designated fund that provides financial assistance for an art major in UW-L's Art Curriculum in Studio Art (painting). Dr.Kendrick taught Painting and Art Education at UW-L for 30 years, retiring in 1990. The Kendricks, Betty
and Dale, have owned and managed Behind-The-Brewery Gallery since 1970. After Dr.Kendrick's death in 2003, several memorials were added to the Kendrick Scholarship.
Jason David Koppelman Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was set up in memory of 19-year old Jason who was killed in a car accident in 1989. Jason, who had a passion for film and dreamed of making movies, was a recipient of the Alfred Rice Scholarship. Koppelman Scholarships are awarded to students pursuing careers in film or communications.
Harold E. Lemke Fund
This fund was established in 1991 to provide scholarships for Onalaska students and to support projects of benefit to the City of Onalaska.
Logan Math and Computer Science Scholarship Fund
In 2002, a local family established this scholarship for a student who has graduated from Logan High School, and is a full-time undergraduate at UW-La Crosse, who exhibits a serious interest in computer science.
Logan Opportunity Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established with the transfer of assets from a private family foundation and serves to support Logan graduates who show academic promise and who face financial difficulties. The Logan Opportunity Scholarship Fund welcomes additional gifts from all members of the community.
Lommen Boys and Girls Club Scholarship
The Lommen Boys and Girls Club Scholarship is awarded each spring to a young person who participates in Club activities.
Don Olson Hospitality Scholarship
Don Olson began his career in the hospitality industry in 1946 and went on to be one of the founding 15 employees of Reinhart Foods. The Don Olson Hospitality Scholarship started as an acorn fund following Mr. Olson’s death in 2003 and will soon grow to support the education of students
studying hospitality services.
Father Christopher Pratt Fund
Father Pratt was a La Crosse priest who served the Episcopal Church and was later ordained a Catholic priest. This fund assists seminarians and/or clergy in continuing education.
Louis I. Rehfuss Fund
In 1959 Mr. and Mrs. Rehfuss donated land to the Foundation with the request that proceeds from its sale be used for scholarships, particularly in the area of advanced mathmatics.
John and Adeline Rice Scholarship Fund
The John and Adeline Rice Scholarship was established by the will of Adeline Rice, who died on Christmas Day, 2001. The Rice Scholarship provides two scholarships each spring for graduating seniors of Central and Logan High Schools based on academic performance and economic need.
Ralph E. Schultz Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established by Ralph’s mother, Luella Schultz, to encourage Logan High School football players to continue their studies at a university.
Burton C. Smith Scholarship Fund
This fund, established through the estate of Logan High School industrial arts teacher Burton Smith, memorializes his wife, Erma, and their son, Robert. Scholarships go to Logan students attending his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
Randy Smith Leadership Fund
Established in 2001 by the board of directors of City Brewery to honor Randy Smith, this scholarship assists La Crosse area students develop their leadership abilities for business, education, community or government service.
William E. Storandt Scholarship
The William E. Storandt Scholarship was established
with a bequest from Mr. Storandt to assist graduates
of Melrose-Mindoro High School who plan to
study agriculture.
William and Lorna Vafeas Art Scholarship
The William and Lorna Vafeas Art Scholarship is awarded each spring to promising art students who are graduates of Central, Logan and Aquinas High Schools and who plan to study art at a four-year college or university.
Vivian and Clayton Veum Scholarship
The Vivian and Clayton Veum Scholarship was established by a bequest from Vivian Veum in 1995 and provides scholarship support for students graduating from nine area high schools who plan to study either nursing or engineering.

Field of Interest
These funds are created to support particular areas of interest such as social justice, health care, hunger needs, education, the arts, environmental programs, and assisting children and women’s initiatives.
Coulee Region National Youth Sports Program Fund
This endowment was established in 1998 as an agency endowment to support the NYSP program that subsequently discontinued operations in the La Crosse area in 2005. In 2006, the Foundation Board of Directors determined that the fund will continue to provide annual support for NYSP-like enrichment opportunities for area youth who may be at risk and can benefit from such programs as determined by the Foundation Board of Directors.
La Crosse Bridge Builders Fund
The Bridge Builders Fund was established to promote communication, understanding and appreciation between the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities and the straight community in La Crosse County. The fund’s goal is dignity and respect for all people.
Howard Dahl Fund
The Howard Dahl Fund, established through his estate, supports diabetes research and diabetes projects.
Global Awareness Fund
The Global Awareness Fund was funded by individuals who encourage a global view that begins with cultural understanding among all peoples. Each year, an advisory committee invites and reviews requests for grants to assist with funding for participation in introductory programs including travel and specially-designed conferences. Grants include plans for sharing new appreciations gained from these experiences.
Alice O. Gordon and Viola Forshler Fund
In 1940, Alice O. Gordon, a life-long educator, was the first donor to the Foundation. Earnings from her bequest are used each year to assist children who have disabilities. A bequest from the Viola Forshler estate was added to the Gordon Fund, to benefit individuals with visual impairments.
Mary Grace Sieber Fund
Through a bequest to the Foundation in 2006, Mary Grace Sieber established a fund to ensure that young people living with physical, emotional or mental disabilities have opportunities to lead independent lives through education programs, enrichment activities and community events.
The Women’s Fund
The Women’s Fund was established in 1998 to promote health, safety, and self-sufficiency for women and girls; to encourage women and girls to develop as philanthropists; and to foster a significant impact on societal attitudes and actions. Visit their Web site at http://www.womensfundlacrosse.org/.
Lillian Kaplan Fund
This fund is part of the Women’s Fund. The Lillian Kaplan Fund was developed with annual contributions from family members who wanted to memorialize Mrs. Kaplan.
Corinne Zielke Fund
A bequest from Corinne Zielke, a successful businesswoman who died in 2000, established this fund to support baseball in the community.

Designated Funds
Donors may select which recipient organization(s) will benefit from the income of a fund at the time it is established. The donor may not alter the designated recipients except to change the funds to unrestricted use.
Steven and Julianna Blanchar Kindergarten Trip Fund
The Steven and Julianna Blanchar Kindergarten Trip Fund was established as a memorial. Prior to their deaths in July 2001, 20-year-old Steven and his 18-year-old sister Julianna had helped their mother, a kindergarten teacher, coordinate class field trips. The Fund's earnings help La Crosse kindergarteners enjoy one spingtime field trip. The Fund is part of the La Crosse Public Education Fund.
Christ Episcopal Church Historic Preservation Fund
Continuing a preservation effort of the oldest church in La Crosse, this endowment was established in 2006 with an initial contribution from a family to invite others to also contribute to the historical preservation of Christ Church. The Fund's goal is to assist in preserving the appearance and physical integrity of Christ Church with emphasis on the main sanctuary, where some of the church's finest historic and religious artwork can be found, including one of the largest Tiffany windows in existence.
James Gokey Endowment Fund
a.k.a Jim’s Grocery Bag Fund
Jim’s Grocery Bag Fund honors the memory of James Gokey, a La Crosse attorney who died in 1998. Jim’s Grocery Bag provides perpetual funding so many elementary school children will have food over long school breaks and short term lunch money when family emergencies occur.
Gertrude and Donald "Sandy" Gordon, Jr., Jazz Scholarship
This scholarship is in honor of Gertrude Salzer Gordon and her son, Donald "Sandy" Gordon, Jr. It provides annual scholarship support for UW-La Crosse students.
Gertrude Salzer Gordon Concert in the Park Fund
This fund was created by Mrs. Gordon to support the Sunset Jazz Concert Series because of her desire to see the concerts continue for future generations.
Sally A. Grimslid Memorial Fund for Franklin Elementary
The Sally A. Grimslid Memorial Fund for Franklin Elementary was established by a memorial gift to the La Crosse Public Education Foundation from Sally's husband and their daughter in 2005 to honor this dedicated teacher. Sally died shortly after her retirement in 2004, and family and loved ones established this permanent fund to honor her and provide extra opportunities for students at Franklin Elementary.
Wayne J. Hood Fund
Wayne J. Hood transferred funds from the Wayne J. Hood Foundation to the La Crosse Community Foundation in 1982. Income supports the Gateway Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the YMCA of La Crosse and Christ Episcopal Church.
Harold L. Isenman Fund
Harold “Pete” Isenman left his estate to the Foundation in 1981. Its earnings support the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, and other portions help cancer research and children who have developmental disabilities.
Conne Repnik Memorial Fund
Connie Repnik left a bequest establishing the Connie Repnik Memorial Fund in 2006. The earnings from the Repnik Fund benefit Bethany Riverside, Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Shriners' Children's Hospital, Gundersen Lutheran Foundation Hospice Program and the Pastoral Care Program.
St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Onalaska Endowment Fund
The St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church Endowment was established by the Bernard and Mary Pralle family to encourage other members of St. Paul's to also contribute to this permanent fund that provides annual earnings to support St. Paul's mission. St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church supports several ministries in the area.
Veronica and Chester Ware Fund
Established by a bequest from Veronica “Bette” Ware in 1995, the Ware Fund supports interests of Mrs. Ware, including the Lutheran Hospital Hospice Fund, Salvation Army, the Red Cross, New Horizons Women’s Shelter and Blessed Sacrament Church.
Harry and Charlotte Woods Family Fund
The Harry and Charlotte Woods Family Fund was established in 1990 with a gift of stock from Mr. Woods. The earnings are distributed to Aquinas Schools, First Presbyterian Church of La Crosse, and Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation.

Life Income Funds
Through these funds, irrevocable gifts may be given to the Foundation that allow the donor or one or more named beneficiaries to receive income for the life. Upon the death of the donor, a named endowment fund is created.
Joan Pickett Annuity
Joan Pickett established the La Crosse Community Foundation's first life income gift in 1990. The fund will support community services and organizations.
