Important Notice for Grant Seekers re: Franke Foundation

April 4, 2018

The Robert and Eleanor Franke Charitable Foundation announced earlier this year that it will dissolve effective June 30, 2018. With the dissolution, a new fund will be created at La Crosse Community Foundation to continue Robert & Eleanor Franke’s charitable giving legacy here in La Crosse.

The new fund – formally being named the Robert & Eleanor Franke Charitable Fund – will continue to award grants under the same competitive grantmaking priorities of the original Franke Foundation, which is “for the purposes of governmental, charitable, humane, educational, medical and scientific achievement within the doctrines of the Catholic Church.” The Franke’s were particularly interested in programs that helped individuals meet their basic needs.

The fund’s first grantmaking round will open for applications July 1. The deadline to apply is October 15, and awards will be announced in November. In 2019 and beyond, the Franke Fund will have two grantmaking rounds annually with deadlines being April 15 and October 15. Applications will be submitted online through the Foundation’s grant portal. Jamie Schloegel, the Foundation’s current Program Director, will assume responsibility for facilitating requests to the Franke Fund. Don’t hesitate to contact her with any questions at (608) 782-3223 or jamie@laxcommfoundation.com. Directions for applying, eligibility criteria, and other information will be posted on our website under Current Grant Opportunities closer to June 30.
