Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership Development program revived by LCF and Viterbo!

In our continued efforts to help La Crosse area nonprofits succeed in meeting their missions, La Crosse Community Foundation is delighted to partner with Viterbo University’s Center for Professional Learning and Development to bring back its Certificate of Nonprofit Leadership Development (CNLD), and with a fresh new twist.

Balancing the demands of community need with limited resources can leave nonprofits unsure of how to take their organizations to the next level. Equipping the region’s nonprofits with the tools and know-how to manage healthy operations and impactful programs helps them to accomplish their missions and serve the community in the most effective ways possible.

Through real-world case studies, small group discussions and interactive presentations, the CNLD program will help participants approach nonprofit duties with a better understanding of how nonprofits function and the issues they face in today’s complex environment.

Participants will also experience a fresh new component added to the certificate program; a mentorship that spans the length of the nine month program with someone who has significant local nonprofit experience. They’ll work together to make improvements to an area selected by the participant that benefits their nonprofit organization.

Helping those who help others

The CNLD program was designed for nonprofit staff and administrators with 1-3 years of service, people interested in volunteering for nonprofit board service and newer board members looking to develop a broader understanding of board functions and responsibilities. Experienced board members looking to sharpen their board skills, recharge their commitment to board service, and connect with likeminded individuals who face common issues will also gain insights by participating.

The full certificate program includes nine workshops and will meet on the second Thursday of each month, September through May, from 8:00-12:00 PM on the Viterbo University campus. The first eight workshops will be led by nonprofit community experts and Viterbo faculty members. The ninth and final workshop will be a dinner celebration where participants will present the project they worked on with their mentor over the course of the program.

The curriculum was curated specifically to meet core competency areas identified by local nonprofit representatives. Individuals will be able to register ‘a la carte’ for some of the sessions if they are not able to participate in the full program. The full list of workshop topics is available here.

Scholarships for accessibility

Recognizing nonprofit budgets and volunteers often don’t have room to support the costs of professional development, we are happy to announce partial-to full scholarships will be available to increase accessibly to the program.

Total cost for the full Nonprofit Leadership Development Certificate is $1,400. Registration for individual workshops is $175. The first cohort of participants working toward the full certificate is limited to 25 participants. Click here to register today!
