Session 1: February 18
The first session will be a panel presentation moderated by LCF’s executive director, Jamie Schloegel. Panelists Sean Dwyer of News 19, Ezra Wall of WPR, and Bob Heisse of the La Crosse Tribune will discuss:
- A typical day in the newsroom
- Understanding what makes something newsworthy
- Understanding reporters and what they need from news sources and the folks they interview
- Who to contact at each news outlet and by what means
- Common mistakes people make when working with reporters
- Top tips for working with a newsroom and reporters
- Q&A
Session 2: February 25
The second session will feature Annette Mikat of Mikat PR. Annette will draw from her 30+ years of PR experience to share with attendees her best tips and lessons learned about news interviews. She’ll cover:
- Before the interview prep
- Key messages: how to create them, how to use them, handling challenging interview styles, and managing difficult quesitons
- Do’s, Don’t, and Nevers
- After the interview advice
