Unrestricted grants
The unrestricted grant program was created to provide funding to charitable organizations for general operating support. Unrestricted grants allow grantees the flexibility to assess and determine where grant dollars are needed most, and allows for innovation, emergent action, and sustainability.
Charitable organizations with 501(c)3 status for at least four years are eligible to apply, and support can be requested for up to three years.
Unrestricted grants can be awarded to charitable organizations who have one (or more) of the following financial needs:
- Need to temporarily cover increased expenses related to capacity building
- To address a know or expected revenue shortfall
- To increase operating revenues to a sustainable level
Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate how unrestricted funding will help them overcome a temporary financial need for operating support and have a plan for sustaining financial health after the grant period.
Unrestricted grants will not be awarded to hospitals, school districts, universities, other foundations or grant-makers, or government entities.
