Fundamentals of Nonprofit Board Governance – VIRTUAL

We are partnering with Propel Nonprofits of the Twin Cities to bring their “Fundamentals of Nonprofit Board Governance” workshop to La Crosse. This workshop is offered regularly through their website for $75, and we are proud to offer it to La Crosse area community members free of charge.


August 12 & 19 from 8:30 AM – 10 AM (Virtual)

Please note, the workshop is two parts. Attendees must attend both 90 minute sessions.

What to expect  from the workshop

After completing the “Fundamentals of Nonprofit Board Governance” workshop, you will participate in board meetings and other engagements with more confidence and more knowledge about your role. You will learn typical board responsibilities and explore the nuances of board authority and relationships. Participants take home Propel’s Nonprofit Board Governance workbook, which includes the Fiduciary Duties of Directors of Charitable Organizations.

About the presenter, Sara Wessling

“I have a passion for nonprofits and enjoy developing training to help organizations grow and thrive. My nonprofit career started at a young age as a volunteer in my rural Iowa home town. Since then I have worked as a program manager for a national child care association, a state support organization for Habitat for Humanity, and an association of leaders of volunteers. Over the past 15 years I’ve had the opportunity to work with nonprofit organizations across the state of Minnesota delivering training, technical assistance and consulting support in areas ranging from volunteer engagement to program evaluation. Most recently I managed Minnesota’s Service Enterprise Initiative certifying more than 40 Minnesota organizations in three years. I have a Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management from Hamline University and an undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my young son and husband, trying new restaurants, reading, and exploring Minnesota’s natural wonders and roadside attractions.” – Sara Wessling

Who should sign up?

While this training is open to all, it is designed for those new to serving on a board or those who are contemplating joining a board.


Registration is on a first come, first-served basis. Please register only if you can attend both sessions in the workshop as space is limited.
