Fundamentals of Nonprofit Board Governance

Do you serve, or would you like to serve, on a nonprofit board of directors? If so, you may find yourself quick to find a nonprofit whose mission you can stand behind, then struggle to figure out what exactly your role as a board member all entails. Nonprofits are, at times, frustratingly more complex than it seems they should be. And a strong board is imperative to ensuring a nonprofit is healthy and maintains their public charity status.

We have an interest in reducing barriers for nonprofits in La Crosse County to gain the tools needed to ensure their success. That’s why we’ve contracted with Propel Nonprofits to bring their popular 2-part board governance training “Fundamentals of Nonprofit Board Governance” to La Crosse.

After attending the workshop, you will participate in board meetings and other engagements with more confidence and more knowledge about your role. You will learn typical board responsibilities and explore the nuances of board authority and relationships. You’ll also receive a copy of Propel’s Nonprofit Board Governance workbook, which includes the Fiduciary Duties of Directors of Charitable Organizations.

This workshop typically costs $75 a person, and we are proud to offer this to you free of charge. Space is limited, so sign up today!

Who should participate in the training?

  • Aspiring board members — community members who are active nonprofit volunteers and/or currently seated on a nonprofit committee
  • New board members — newly-seated board members who are in their first term on a board
  • Experienced board members — seasoned board members looking to revitalize and strengthen their competencies in board service
